Council Care Adult Day Services’ two locations, the Irving Spolan Center at Weinberg Village and the Anathan Club in the heart of Squirrel Hill, offer a warm, loving program for older adults who might feel isolated and lonely – or who need a supervised daytime program in order to continue living at home. Since its founding in 1983, Council Care has gained a reputation for excellence in the care it provides. Council Care’s centers are open Monday through Friday, exclusive of holidays. Participants may enroll for one to five days per week.

Through extensive therapeutic programming, Council Care’s participants are encouraged to reach for the highest level of functioning possible. Programs include music and creative arts; horticulture classes; discussion groups, lectures and films; outings to local cultural events and restaurants, and much more. Programming is tailored to meet the needs of each Council Care participant.

Our team of dedicated professionals and volunteers get to know each participant as an individual and treat them like members of the family. Family members and caregivers are assured that their loved one will be safe and secure, and will have a meaningful experience each day at Council Care.

Helping Families Care for Older Adults

The goal of Council Care is to enhance the quality of life for its participants and their families. Regular discussion between staff, families, and participants keeps all parties aware of the participants’ changing needs. While loved ones are participating in Council Care programs, their caregivers are able to go to work, take care of other responsibilities, or just enjoy important respite time. Council Care offers and encourages all family members and caregivers to attend monthly support groups and caregiver meetings, as well as lunch gatherings.

Anathan Club

Unique from other adult day service facilities, the Anathan Club provides a social setting for adults with early stage memory impairments, who are otherwise fully independent. The day’s activities provide cognitive stimulation, utilize large and fine motor skills, and promote language skills and social interaction. Because the entire day offers opportunities for accomplishment and success, members leave the club with a renewed sense of dignity and self-worth.

Irving Spolan Center

The Irving Spolan Center provides therapeutic activities, nutrition assessment, and nursing services in a warm, caring environment. The Spolan Center serves seniors with physical disabilities and moderate to advanced memory impairments. Daily activities keep the participants’ minds and bodies active. Because of its location on the Weinberg Village campus, participants at the Spolan Center have access to rehabilitation therapies and personal care services, such as bathing and hair care.

Jewish Traditions and Values

Though we serve people from all backgrounds, at Council Care Adult Day Services we pay particular attention to Jewish traditions and values. Special events are planned around Jewish holidays. Participants and their families attend the annual Passover Seder, lunch in the Sukkah, and Megillah reading. In addition to the JAA’s Pastoral Care Director, many Jewish community groups provide programming and volunteers for Council Care throughout the year.
