Sivitz Jewish Hospice focuses on relieving pain and treating symptoms of terminally ill patients. Sivitz does not employ treatments that will either hasten or postpone death.

Patients enter hospice when they decide to stop seeking curative treatment, either because a physician says that nothing more can be done to cure the disease, or because the patient requests an end to extraordinary measures and wants to remain as comfortable and alert as possible as life ends.

In addition to treating physical symptoms, hospice also addresses clients’ spiritual and emotional needs. As doctors and nurses monitor patients’ physical health, a holistic team of mental health and religious professionals, friends, family members, and caregivers tends to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients.

The patients are encouraged to accomplish goals, make amends as needed with those they care about, and take the time to say goodbye to family and friends. By acknowledging that death is approaching, patients are empowered to live the end of their lives on their own terms.

While we serve patients of all backgrounds, Sivitz personnel are specially trained to be sensitive to particular Jewish issues. Sivitz staff members understand Jewish religious traditions, such as keeping kosher and observing the Sabbath. They will sensitively accommodate the religious needs of patients, family members and caregivers.
