13 to highlight exceptional permanent models of collaboration among nonprofit organizations. • The JAA’s intergenerational program, Generation 2 Generation (G2G), won the Association of Jewish Aging Service’s innovation prize for helping seniors stay connected, addressing isolation and loneliness, and building a new generation of teen leaders committed to the Greatest Generation. • Sivitz Jewish Hospice celebrated its 20th anniversary of bringing comfort and caring to so many in our community at the end of life. • The JAA and The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh hosted a sold-out survival and resilience dinner to rave reviews. • Charles M. Morris Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was named as one of the first clients of Curavi, a UPMC telemedicine service that aims to reduce avoidable hospital admissions. • The JAA launched “PT at the JCC— Powered by the JAA” at the Jewish Community Center’s Forbes Avenue location, serving a new community of more than 250 physical therapy clients. • The JAA held a sold-out event at the Heinz History Center celebrating the Art of Aging with guest Oscar-winner Joel Grey. • The JAA completed the renovation of the certified memory care center of excellence on the Allderdice unit, one of the few skilled nursing facilities to have such a distinction. The renovation included new flooring, new paint specifically engineered for aging eyes, new lighting and a new resident- centered dining room. In fiscal year 2017 we provided nearly $3 million, 10 percent of our operating budget, in free care and services to seniors in our community through our Benevolent Care Fund. Once under the JAA’s care, no one is ever asked to leave for lack of ability to pay. The JAA’s uncompensated care investment ensures the uninterrupted fulfillment of JAA’s important mission. • The JAA serves compassionate and innovative care for more than 2,000 seniors and their families every year. • Last fall the JAA fulfilled our vision to become the premier memory care center of excellence in Western Pennsylvania when we were named a certified Memory Care Center of Excellence under the Boston, Massachusetts-based Hearthstone Institute’s “I’m Still Here” comprehensive transformation training program. Hearthstone offers innovative memory care techniques through agency-wide culture change. • In FY17, we broke ground on the new (and now open) AHAVA Memory Care Residence on the JAA main campus, a premier residential facility for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias based on the Hearthstone “I’m Still Here” model. • The JAA, along with its Jewish sister agencies received a $150,000 grant as the winner of the 2017 Lodestar Collaboration Prize. AgeWell Pittsburgh is a nonprofit partnership between the JAA, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, and Jewish Family & Children’s Service.
