2018 ANNUAL REPORT 5 Working with our staff, Rita brought her legacy to life with a bequest to create Rita’s Place. This transformation of the courtyard of our Allderdice memory care wing created a beautiful garden and outdoor gathering space. Rita imagined residents savoring an early morning cup of coffee outdoors, watching a light summer rain under the pergola, and sowing the seeds of love for all to enjoy. Rita passed away in 2016, and the courtyard she envisioned has been reconstructed according to her wishes. The base of the perennial garden was laid in the summer of 2018 and will be planted by the residents in the spring and continuing seasons. The constantly evolving garden is a living testimony to the passion for life that Rita exuded. Rita’s Place is her legacy, a sanctuary of colorful flowers to attract birds and butterflies, providing both joy and solace as reminders of the beauty of life and the beauty of Rita’s generosity. Friends and family remember Rita J. Gould as a vibrant woman who loved nature, colorful clothes, snappy hats, and athletics. Rita helped to launch a local TV magazine, which eventually became the widely published TV Guide, where she worked for 38 years. Rita was also devoted to the Pittsburgh community and volunteered tirelessly on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the Jewish Community Center. She was an integral part of JAA’s rebranding efforts, serving on the newly created marketing committee. Touched by the many residents she met through JAA, Rita saw an opportunity to leave a legacy that would bring joy to them and their loved ones for years to come. Rita envisioned a place where residents living with memory loss and their families could spend time together surrounded by the comforts of nature. RITA’S PLACE, A LEGACY OF BEAUTY WE BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE IS CAPABLE OF MAKING AN IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITY’S FUTURE. EACH CONTRIBUTION IS SIGNIFICANT, NO MATTER HOW LARGE OR SMALL.
